Auliya Allah – Friends of ALLAH – Hazrat Baayazeed Bustaami
Bustaam is situated in Semnan, which is a province of Iran. Hazrat Baayazeed Bustaami (Rahmatullahi Alaih) is one of the eminent friends of Allah and a spiritual guide.
He became close to Allah the Almighty through performing mystic exercises and worshipping Allah. He holds a position in narrating the traditions (Ahaadith).
Another great spiritual guide Hazrat Junaid Baghdadi (Rahmatullahi Alaih) says, “Hazrat Baayazeed (Rahmatullahi Alaih) is as much esteemed among friends of Allah as Hazrat Jibreel (Alaihissalam) is among the angels.” Hazrat Baayazeed (Rahmatullahi Alaih) himself says, “Even if people remain bewildered in the garden of mystic knowledge for two hundred years then only they might get a flower whereas I acquired it in the beginning.
Hazrat Shaikh Abu Saeed says I see the entire world be- ing overflowing with his attributes and qualities yet no one knows his rank.” Hazrat Baayazood’s (Rahmatullahi Alaih) grandfather was a fire-worshipper but his father was among the great saints of Bustaam.
In childhood, Hazrat Baayazeed (Rahmatullahi Alaih) went to school (madrassa). He read the verse of Surah Luqman …be thankful to Me and to your parents…” (31: 14)
He came to his mother and said, “I am unable to thank two beings. So either you ask for me from Allah the Almighty, so that I go on thanking you or give me up to Allah the Almighty so that I will become busy thanking Allah the Almighty, His mother said, “Bon, l give up my rights which l have over you and hand you over to Allah the Almighty.
So Hazrat Baayazeed (Rahmatullah Alaih) went towards Syria and remained busy in remembrance of Allah for three years.

Those three years which he passed in the plains and deserts of Syria in remembrance and worshipping Allah, he deprived himself of food and water. Remembrance of Allah was the sole purpose of his life and during that period he met one hundred seventeen spiritual leaders and received favors and blessings from them.
Among them is Hazrat Imam Jaafar Saadiq (Radiyallahu Anhu) as well. Once Hazrat Imam Jaa- far Saadiq (Radiyallahu Anhu) said, “Baayazeed take out the book from the arch, Hazrat Baayazeed Rahmatullahi Alaih) enquired,

Hazrat Imam Jaafar Radiyallahu Anhu) said Your work is completed to go back to Bustaam. Hazrat Baayazeed (Rahmatullahi Alaih) says The ranks, which l attained is all because of pleasing and obeying my mother.
Once, at night my mother asked me for water. There was no water in the pitcher, so I went to the river, filled the pitcher and came back. Meanwhile, my mother had gone to sleep.
I stood beside her holding the Jug of water. The night was cold and the water froze in the jug. My mother woke up from sleep and drank some water. Then she noticed that I was holding the jug, so she said, “Why you stood with the jug ?” I replied, “Mother, I feared that if I had kept the jug then you would drink water on your own Once, at night my mother asked me to keep the door of the room half open. stood awake whole night.
I was worried to keep the door half open properly. Whatever I am is due to serving my mother.” One day Hazrat Baayazeed (Rahmatullahi Alaih) went to visit a saint. On reaching near him, he saw the saint spitting in the direction of Qibla (Ka’aba Sharif).
Seeing it, he returned without meeting the saint said, “If he would have acquainted with io way of life (Target) e would have not violated observance of outer law.” Hazrat Baayazeed (Rahmatullahi Alaih), while going to Masjid for Namaaz, never spat on the road, this was out of respect of Masjid.
When he went to perform Haj, during the journey he went on offering prayers (Namaaz) after walking a few steps. In this manner, he reached Makkah Muazzama in twelve Del years During a journey Hazrat Baayazeed (Rahmatullahi Alaih) was going along the road.

People looked at the camel keenly and found that the load was a full span above its back. They were surprised to see it.

Hazrat Baayazeed (Rah- matullahi Alaih) said, “If I hide from others they open their tongues and if I disclose the fact people are surprised. When Hazrat Baayazeed (Rahmatullahi Alaih) was returning to Bustaam from a journey a huge crowd gathered at tar away from the city come him.

The youth was under the influence of intoxication and did not realize who was in front of him. Hazrat Baayazeed (Rahmatullahi Alaih) returned home and the next morning sent an amount to the youth with a message, “Baayazeed asks you to forgive him. Last night you hit me with the lute and it broke. Buy a new one from the amount, which I am sending. Buy some sweetmeat to remove the sadness suffered by you on account of the loss of the lute.
When the youth received the sum and the message he realized what he had done. He came to Hazrat Baayazeed (Rahmatullahi Alaih) and apologized. The youth offered repentance and many others also joined him. These are a few examples showing us how friends of Allah behaved with people. The namesake and those who disguise themselves as friends of Allah can never ever have such qualities.)
